2011 in review: Bay-Delta fisheries & water supplies

Coalition response...The heavier than normal rain and snow this past year resulted in the increased water supplies that the Delta received. These same supplies cannot be duplicated by operations of the State and federal water systems, which means that if these natural conditions do not continue then California's water users---farmers, businesses, 25 million Californians and the environment---will be plunged into reduced deliveries. These increased supplies during last year also aided in improving habitat, food availability and water quality for Delta fish, important elements for the species rebound which the author omits. Without the increased rain and snow, Delta fish will again suffer because of the 146 million gallons of treated sewage daily discharged into the Delta waters by the Sacramento region, resulting in 125,000 gallons of ammonia each month that disrupt the habitat, food and quality of the fish. Individuals and organizations that continually point to exports as the cause of the fish decline do a disservice in resolving California's water dilemma.
