California Fall Run Chinook Looks Big For 2012
Blog
From Sierra2thesea - Saturday, March 3, 2012
Coalition response...This writer makes two points not often seen in blogs about salmon recovery: 1) ocean conditions are a factor in the lifecycle of Chinook salmon, and 2) dams and reservoirs help provide cold water and improved flows during dry years that help both fish and farmers. Taking those factors into consideration completely changes the discussion over how to address recent declines in fish populations in the Delta. Addressing the problems we can control, such as fish rearing habitat in the Delta region and preventing wasteful "environmental" water releases that have no measurable benefit will not only help increase water supply reliability for California's farms, it will salmon when they need it most.
