(The following is a statement by Mike Wade, Executive Director of the California Farm Water Coalition, in response to today's State of the State address by Governor Jerry Brown.)
"The Governor's continued commitment to securing a reliable water future for California through the Bay Delta Conservation Plan is to be applauded. Water that flows through the Delta reaches as far south as San Diego, more than half the length of our state. The benefit from this water delivery is found in many sectors of our way of life.
"More than 2 million acres of farmland are irrigated with this water supply, providing jobs and affordable, healthy and locally-produced food. Farms located along the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, from Tracy to Bakersfield, as well as many in the Coachella Valley and San Diego all contribute to California's bounty with water that flows through the Delta.
"The risk is too great to not move forward with the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. California's water supply and economic future depend on the leadership we heard in Governor Brown's remarks today."
