Coalition response...Californians only use a portion of the water that nature provides, despite the opening sentence to this story. The majority of water that falls on our state is consumed by vegetation, soaks into the underground and flows to the ocean. Of the 85 million acre feet of water that is available for use in a normal year, most goes to specific environmental purposes (48%) and the rest goes to agriculture (41%) and municipal/industrial uses (11%). It is important to remember that this Delta draft is the first of several updated drafts that will be issued later this year.

Coalition response... If endangered fish species are expected to go extinct does that mean Herculean efforts to fix the Delta are unnecessary? No one knows for sure and that's why we need to look at more than one draft of the Delta Plan. Ample evidence exists to show that many controllable factors are harming the Delta ecosystem from water pollution to invasive species. Before we relegate fish like the Delta smelt and Chinook salmon to the way of the dinosaur let's give the Delta Plan a chance to do what it was supposed to do - find workable solutions to Delta ecosystem and water supply problems.
