CA delta Chinook salmon run bigger, but still low

Story

From SF Chronicle – Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011

Coalition response...As this story points out, biologists recognize that export pumps are not the major cause of the salmon decline. Other factors---lack of spawning habitat, pollution, predation by other fish and unfavorable ocean conditions---create a much larger impact on lower salmon numbers. Critics of water flowing to San Joaquin Valley farms to grow food need to realize California agriculture as a whole may have done well but areas subjected to water supply cuts suffered enormously. Almond production was sustained, albeit temporarily, by directing what little water was available to the trees while fields devoted to annual crops were left fallow.
