No quick fix for Delta

Editorial

From Stockton Record - Monday, April 9,

Coalition response...This editorial correctly represents the results of the NRC scientists as they reviewed the water management policies and ecosystem of the Delta. Two years of intense study resulted in the determination of no one "fix" will cure the Delta and any effort to find those answers must involve a multi-prong approach. Reasonable discussions between all interested parties must take place. Part of that discussion has already begun in the BDCP and Delta Stewardship Council efforts. These efforts need to continue in conjunction with meaningful discussions that are void of rhetoric.

Pacific fishermen prepare for big salmon season

TV news

From KTVU - Friday, April 6, 2012

Coalition response...National Research Council scientists just released a two-year study that identifies stressors of salmon as they pass through the Delta. These stressors also include loss of habitat and food supplies, poor water quality and the discharge of ammonium into the waterways. These same scientists declined to rank the stressors regarding impacts and emphasized that addressing the salmon population numbers will require a multi-prong approach, which is a direct contradiction to those critics who have maintained that diversions have been the main culprit.
