Coalition response... Discharges into the Delta from area cities become mixed with water and remains comingled as it enters and exists the region. Pollutants, such as ammonium, have been found to destroy the food supply for Delta fishery. The City of Sacramento is the largest discharger of ammonium into the Delta with a daily discharge averaging 14 tons. Recipients of Delta water exports are as susceptible to receiving upstream contaminants as anyone or anything living within the Delta.
Brown Administration to Look at Smaller Tunnel
Blog
From Green Roots – Friday, May 13, 2011
Coalition response...Jerry Meral’s statement did not discard the tunnel(s) that have been the focus of the BDCP review. The effect of his public statement is to encourage the further involvement of more groups in the BDCP efforts. Also, it is important to recognize that during a media conference the NRC scientists supported the science used in the BDCP as “sound” and stated there is no need to restart the BDCP process.
Find a way to restore the delta
Editorial
From Merced Sun-Star – Monday, May 16, 2011
(This editorial was previously printed in the Fresno Bee and the Coalition responded with the following response.)
Coalition response...This editorial is correct that an agreement in the Delta is necessary to safeguard California’s water future. NRC scientists made some very strong statements following their review of the BDCP work that is now six months old. They acknowledged that ongoing BDCP studies are already filling in the gaps and that there is no need to restart the process. Perhaps the most telling of all statements was that the science being used in the BDCP process is “sound.” BDCP has brought us the closest in years to a Delta resolution and now is not the time to abandon it.
